WandaVision Review

Earlier this year the first episode of WandaVision, a new Marvel Studios TV show directed by Matt Shakman, along with head writer Jac Schaeffer, aired on Disney Plus on January 15th, 2021. The finale aired around a month and a half later on March fifth, 2021.

WandaVision, as described by Disney Plus, is a show that “blends the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.” The show stars Elizabeth Olsen playing Wanda Maximoff, also known as The Scarlet Witch, and Paul Bettany playing Vision, a Synthezoid who happens to be Wanda’s lover.

Surprisingly the show also brings back characters from previous films, such as Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) first introduced in Thor, and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) first introduced in Captain Marvel as the daughter of Captain Marvel’s friend Maria Rambeau.

IMDb, a known entertainment database gave WandaVision a rating of eight point one stars out of ten, based on a total of around 134 thousand votes from registered accounts. The show’s genre combines romance, mystery, drama, and science fiction similar to many other Marvel movies and shows.

WandaVision received an age rating of TV-PG, meaning it is suitable for children most of the time although parental guidance is advised. The show’s first three episodes start off quite bland, though they do build up important points for the finale.

The show takes place in 2023, three to four weeks after Avengers: Endgame when the Avengers had managed to bring back half of the beings in the universe that Thanos had snapped away during Avengers: Infinity War.

Vision died at the hands of Thanos who was after the Mind Stone, which was embedded into Vision’s head. Wanda had seen her lover die, while everyone else was reunited with their loved ones, which left her heartbroken. She had lost everyone important to her in such little time, her two parents, her twin brother, and now her lover.

Despite this, the show opened up to Wanda and Vision casually living in a nice 1950s styled home, with attire to match. The first three episodes of the show played out like a normal sitcom that seemed to skip through generations, with episode one being the ‘50s, episode two the ’60s, episode three the ’70s. But throughout these first three episodes, Wanda began experiencing irregular phenomenons, which seemed to fritz her powers.

Post episode three, members of the Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division, better known as S.W.O.R.D. began to investigate, a missing town, known as Westview, New Jersey. They slowly began gathering information, as they tried to answer a certain question; What was really going on?
