Chess is a strategic game that’s played by two players and improves your concentration and thinking skills. Although many might be familiar with the board game, they might not know exactly how to play. The new Chess Club which has recently emerged at Malden High School, allows students to learn how to play.

The club meets every Thursday and is located in room B331. Aldino Talic, the creator of the Chess Club, said, “In my freshman year, I didn’t see any chess-related things and I was pretty surprised by that so I decided to make my own.”

In addition to the after-school club, they also hope to host a wide range of events in the future, like contests or chess matches.

“We’re planning to raise money to hopefully be able to do events like competitions and tournaments. We hope to get support from the school, from Mr. Mastrangelo, and from fundraising.” Henry Fan, treasurer and a member of the club, explained.

With a welcoming enviroment, every memeber enjoys interacting with each other as they engage over their shared interest.

“I like this club because I get to meet new people and try out a new hobby.” Terrance Zeng, another member of the club, said.

“We encourage students to join by putting up posters around the school.” Aldino Talic stated. In hopes of attracting new members to the club, they are “hoping to give prizes to the top winners soon.”

If you enjoy playing chess or want to learn how to play, the Chess Club encourages you to join. “If you like chess, you’ll like this club. You can improve a little bit, or even just stop by.” Aldino Talic finished.
