Near the end of their season, the Golden Tornados Girls’ Basketball team won their final home and Senior Night game against the Salem Witches in a dominant 41-21 stomp.

Senior Night, held on February 12th, started off strong for Malden with the Golden Tornados jumping to a quick 4-0 lead early in the first quarter. Salem bounced back and brought the score back to 4-4, but a three-pointer and a two in quick succession and a last-minute three from junior Kimberly Tropnas ended the quarter 12-4 for Malden.

Malden would continue the long-range threat in the second quarter with threes from Captain Angelina Colon and Tropnas and bring the score to 23-13 to end the second quarter.

In the third quarter, junior Ina Francesca Tolete joined in on the onslaught of Malden threes; The Witches seemed unable to answer the constant pressure and the lead grew to 14 points for Malden.

In the last quarter, Malden stayed consistent and finished the game strongly.

With the final buzzer came deafening cheers from the packed stands. Friends and family soon rushed the court to congratulate and celebrate Seniors Tori Gammon, Jamila Said, and Angelina Colon.

Malden unfortunately lost their final game 34-50 in an away match against Arlington High School, bringing their regular-season record to 13 wins and 7 losses. The Golden Tornados were then knocked out in the preliminary round of the State Tournament by King Philip Regional High School in a 68-28 game.
