Flying towards Malden High with her Silke Chickens after spending her time teaching Kindergarten through fourth grade at the Ferryway school is Courtney Gould, who has eased comfortably into her role as an art teacher at MHS. In a previous article from The Blue and Gold,  “Reebok Launches Wonder Woman Campaign Featuring Malden Teacher”, Gould was seen as a “local wonder woman” during her time at Ferryway, where she taught for around 20 years until moving up to MHS for a change of scenery.

Now at Malden High, Gould teaches for the Fine Arts Department. Spending just a few weeks in her first year at the high school, she already has a “mentoring role within the department,” Principal Chris Mastrangelo praised.

“She knows her curriculum. Being a teacher, you get to read people. She has that instinct, and so she knows that if a kid is confused, she’s always going around, looking to work, complimenting them, assisting them,” shared business teacher Beth Horwitz.

Holland House Principal Brian Bates remarked that Gould also “brought some consistency and some strengths” into the department, focusing “on relationships with students.”

Gerard Tanetta, Head of Social Sciences and Art Department, shared his opinion on Gould and her success with her previous students, “I’ve been working with the school for the last four years, so we are very excited to have her over here. I’ve seen her do great work with students over at Ferryway.”

Moving forward, her new colleagues have expressed their high hopes for Gould. “It’s really nice to have someone who has been in Malden before and knows our students and has been successful as a teacher, so we know that she’s going to do a great job coming up to the high school,” Tanetta positively continued.

Working for over a month at Malden High, Gould is a “welcome addition to the community here and doing a great job,” Horwitz added. Gould’s expertise has proven to be a win for the Art Department, bringing incredible experience and patience to her classes.
