After surviving over a year without any sort of elected government, the country of Belgium found themselves embroiled in an election involving 50,000 candidates for 589 administrative districts. That equals out to 85 candidates per seat. One of these candidates, Alexander Dziri, a well-known break dancer, ran on a platform promoting the voice of his community’s urban scene. “In a perfect society, every group gets represented in society, but that’s not possible, of course,” he was quoted as saying to the Wall Street Journal in Oct. 2012. Other candidates included David Weytsman and Florence Frelinx, a pair who remade a version of Carly Rae Jephson’s “Call Me Maybe,” as well as several graduates of clown college, an 18-year-old acrobat, and numerous performers.
