The start of the second semester is at first hectic. Students are bustling to change schedules, amend report card troubles, schedule SAT prep, and finalize college applications.
It’s hard to believe that an entire semester has gone by. “Half of your year has been determined academically,” guidance counselor for Boyle House, Erin Craven stated. “But you still have half of the year to work on, and make it better. [It’s] a great opportunity to think of what to take next year.” For seniors, “finishing up colleges applications, starting the financial aid process and clarifying other post-secondary opportunities” is of high priority. Craven explained, “This is the time where you have to look and say what are you going to do six months after graduating.”
There are several events happening in the next few months for students, including FAFSA day on Sunday Jan. 31, at a career fair in April for seniors, a free SAT prep program preparing students for the May SAT, and at the end of March students will be choosing classes for next year.
Happening soon:
- FAFSA day is Jan. 31, where students and parents complete their FAFSAs with the help of teachers and guidance counselors.
- The Let’s Get Ready program, a prep program for the upcoming May SAT, from Mid-February to the beginning of May on Tuesdays and Thursdays at MHS.
- MCAS starts in March.
- There is a career fair in April for seniors.
- Choosing classes for next year begins towards the end of March.
