Annual Poetry Out Loud Finals Photo Gallery

Malden High School hosted its annual Poetry Out Loud (POL) competition where students from grades 9-12 compete with poems of their choice for a spot in the regional finals. This is competition that thousands of schools nation wide participate in. Malden Highs winners were senior Makeila Scott (1st), junior Natalie Keating (2nd), and freshman Cathen Fontanilla (3rd). Like every POL finals here at Malden High, there is a staff round where teachers compete a poem, this years winner was English teacher Yahaira Marquez.

  • Math teacher Evan Mauser recites his poem in competition with other staff.
  • Staff winner Yaharia Marquez presenting her poem.

Shuyi Chen (she/her) is a first-year reporter at The Blue and Gold. Originally from Guangdong, China, she moved to Boston at a young age and settled in Malden during second grade. Shuyi enjoys watching movies, dining out with friends, and playing volleyball for Malden High’s varsity team. As of last year, she became a part of our varsity softball team as an outfielder. Engaged in various clubs such as the Shrub Club, Key Club, and Y-Leaders, she also holds the role as one of the Class of 2024 Social Media Coordinators.
