Getting out of school, ever wonder what marvelous dishes can peak your interest? From June 4th to June 7th, the city of Arlington hosted their annual Greek Festival, bringing the spirit of Greek culture to Saint Athanasius, aGreat Greek Orthodox Church. For thirty-five years, the Greek Festival has been up and at it to continue to keep Greek culture relevant nowadays, in a world where culture from all over the world spread across globally, especially in the United States.
Walking into the festival, many vendors opened up their foodshops, where they waited for hungry customers to come by and buy their food. Besides the food, which varied from delectable sandwiches to spectacular drinks.
For people who prefer a nice shot of energy, the Greek Festival offered three options of coffee: Hot Coffee, Iced NESCAFE Frappe, and their famous Hot Greek Coffee, all being sold for five dollars. There were also other vendors that had drink dispensers that held bottled drinks like Minute Made Lemonade, Bottled Water, and soda drinks like Coco Cola.
The main dish of the event was the famous greek gyro, filled with slices of beef, tomatoes, unions, with dressing to top it all off, wrapped in a burrito-sandwich way for customers to buy. “We thought it would be a good idea to introduce the town to our heritage, culture, and our delicious food,” noted by food vendor, Michael.
Besides all the food and drinks that were served, the festival also had a Golf Raffle for people to enter for a chance to win $4,000, with a golf ball added to it. For a small entree fee of 30 dollars, customers would have the chance to enter before it reaches the maximum of 300 entries. This raffle will continue until June 18th, where the winner will be emailed their reward.
By the end of the festival, Georgios Karatzas & Athenian Entertainment Greek Orchestra came together and began playing traditional Greek music and live bouzouki. In addition, there were tons of people dancing after they had eaten plenty of Greek food. Finally, on Sunday, the event concluded their four day festival. They ended it with “a huge Thanksgiving event, where we fed over 450 families a full Thanksgiving dinner,” Michael finished with.
