As a new year at Malden High School begins, Andy Martinez has joined the school community as a new science teacher.
Martinez has dreamt of becoming a teacher since he took biology and fell in love with the subject his sophomore year of high school. Before becoming a teacher, he worked as a biologist for five years, holding off on pursuing his dream until he was “older” and “more patient,” Martinez noted.
When school isn’t in session, Martinez likes to spend his days spending time hiking in nature and reading books.
Martinez has had experience in many different environments, making him suitable for the diversity that MHS offers. One of his most notable jobs was at an school in Jamaica Plain where he “taught Biology to students who were learning English.” He explained, “It was all different grades; some of them were freshmen, some of them were seniors, some of them were 10th graders,” He also taught 8th grade science at Boston Latin Academy.

“I’m certain he’s going to get involved more and become an integral member of his team,” Brunelli House Principal Ewald Charles positively reflected, who pointed out: “I’ve seen him at meetings; he’s involved, he’s asking questions, and he’s quickly becoming a member of the science team, integrating himself and learning and sharing his thoughts.”
As Martinez settles into Malden, the community welcomes him with open arms as a new member of the science team, ready to make a positive impact.
