On October 5th, the co-ed Malden-Revere golf team faced the Lynn English Bulldogs at Kelly Green Golf Course in Nahant. The match remained close, but resulted in Malden’s team taking home the victory with a 37-35 win.
The Kelly Green Golf Course can get very windy and cause trouble for some players during their swings and putts. Prior to the match, the players practiced in the windy weather to prepare themselves by taking practice swings.
At the start of the match, both Malden-Revere and the Bulldogs separated into four groups containing four players each; two groups of Malden-Revere players and two of Lynn English players.
The first group was composed of senior Jacob Simonelli from Revere High and Senior Captain Thomas (Tommy) Cronin from Malden High, showcasing their talents cultivated through the years, pulling multiple victories from the matches.

The group to go after them was senior Joshua Mini and Senior Revere Captain George. These two groups both won the majority of their holes and contributed massively to the total score.
As both groups of Malden-Revere players won the majority of holes, racking up points, the stakes continued to rise.
Facing tough competition, Lynn English took the lead in the third group and gained most of the points for their team.
In the third group were junior Kyle Nickerson and another Revere player, where they battled and came close in multiple matches but sadly fell behind. “The wind made it harder to hit the ball in the direction I wanted,” claimed Nickerson.
This sport may not seem hard, but it is technical and arguably “one of the hardest sports,” asserted Head Coach Richard Malatesta.

With the even score from the matches in the last and fourth group, junior Sophie Tran and sophomore Vanessa Huang brought home the win for Malden High.
“The girls are ultimately one of the main reasons we won today,” praised Malatesta.
The match ultimately ended in the defeat of Lynn English. The talent of Malden and Revere’s team to win in a difficult situation brought hope to the team and proved that focus and determination can win a game.
