Members of the MHS Wrestling team competed in Sectionals on February 10th.

Unfortunately, some players got injured during practice and were not able to go to Sectionals. However, the members who did not make it into sectionals or were injured still showed up to help support the team.

The team had gone against thirteen other schools. In order to win Sectionals, a team needs to be able to win a certain amount of matches.

Senior Captain Seth Jones said that he felt nervous before sectionals had happened. He said that “[he] could had done better in sectionals”, as he wrestled twice before being eliminated.

Jones said that “[he] went up against really good wrestlers, [as well] everyone else [on the team].” He said that “[he will] learn from [his] mistakes, but [since he is] a senior, [he will not] really wrestle again after [this year].”

Senior Captain Carlos Parada Araujo said that “[he] felt sick before sections due to having the flu.” Because of this, “[he] was not in the right state of mind, and [he] was still under the effect of the flu.”

During Sectionals, Parada Araujo had faced against three opponents and had wrestle three times while in Sectionals. He had wrestled against wrestlers from Needham, Newton South, and St. John’s. On his experience with Sectionals, Parada Araujo had stated that “[he] could had done a lot better [since he] was not in the right shape leading up to Sectionals.”

During sectionals, Senior Junior Pericles had been placed in second places an had gotten a silver metal.Senior  Stephanie Campos had also won second place in the girls wrestling tournament. Even though other people on the wrestling team did not place, they still got to learn from this experience.

Those who were not able to be placed or who did not make it into Sectionals got to learn from the experience for the better. The Freshmen, Sophomore, and Juniors will be able to make it into sectionals next year when a new season happens for the sport.

Sectionals might be one of the the final matches for the Senior wrestlers on the team. Since most of the Seniors are leaving the wrestling team will have less players on the team since most of the players are Seniors.
