Senior Rachael Eaglin Wins Posse Scholarship

Ajithaan Sathiyendra May 11, 2018 2 minutes read

Senior Rachael Eaglin is one of a few seniors to receive the Posse scholarship this year.

The Posse foundation, who created this scholarship, identifies public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential who may have been overlooked by traditional college processes.

Eaglin had found out about this scholarship at “a meeting at the end of [her] junior year that [her] guidance counselor” recommended everyone to go to learn about it even if they were not sure if they wanted to go for it. After learning more about the scholarship, Eaglin decided to “try it, even though [she] doubted that was going to get the scholarship to see how far [she] can go”.

The night after the final interview for the scholarship, one of the Posse admissions officers had called and welcomed her to the Class of 2022, which she couldn’t believe and “was overwhelmed with happiness and relief.”

Eaglin mentioned that the Posse foundation decides the college that you go to based on “how you rank the five Posse schools in order” by preference during the second interview for the scholarship, in which Bryn Mawr College was her top choice.

Eaglin mentioned how since she is in a STEM Posse with 9 other girls, she will be going into a STEM major. She “personally likes math, engineering, and is really interested in planes, so [she] might go into aerospace engineering or avionics.”

Eaglin believes that she will miss the community after high school because she has gotten used to the “welcoming, diverse, and interesting community after four years,” and “since [she] will be going to not only a different school, but also a different state,” she has to get used to the new community.

Eaglin will heading to Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania as a part of the Class of 2022 in the fall.
