“It’s Christmas and when you think of Christmas, everyone thinks of a wreath right?” Carol Woodruff, a staff member at the Malden Public Library stated.

On December 19th, the Malden Public Library hosted an origami wreath-making event in part with the Friends of the Malden Public Library organization. President of the organization, Mary Ellen O’Meara set this event up and wanted to create a space for everyone to enjoy themselves and participate in making their own origami creations.

“It’s an exercise for the fingers. It’s not just about age, any age can attend,” explained Woodruff. She continued, “This was to draw the public to the library to let them know there are other things besides just books, audiobooks, and DVDs.”

“Upstairs in the children’s room, there’s a glass case and there are other origami things…It’s really really interesting,” described Woodruff. She expressed how not only adults or teens can do origami but also children of all ages.

Woodruff wanted to show how many more options are available at the Malden Public Library. “The young adults have movie night, the adults have game night which is a really big thing. The kids have a chess club, and book clubs for different grades, and every other week they also have little things for kids to do so it’s really super fun!” she exclaimed.

Many were interested in the event because the library always has a variety of events going on. “I came here because I have the time and I love the library,” a man who attended explained. “I love to see how the library grows and they have a couple of events here like the opera society and it was grand. It’s something I think was so cultural and it was free too.”
