On April 27, 2024, the Malden High School Crew team competed in a scrimmage against Everett, and Arlington, a first-time opponent. Throughout the entire meet, the team showed consistent effort and teamwork during all the races. With the help of Head Coach Kevin Isaza, and Assistant Coach Tiffany Cane, groups such as the Boys’ Varsity, Girls’ Varsity, and Co-Ed four squads were able to push through the Malden River with the help of essential members such as the Coxswains, Sophomore Ace Showstead and Junior Lanyu Liang, and Senior Captain of the Varsity Boys’ team, and Editor-In-Chief for the Malden High School Blue and Gold, Daniel O’Toole. The energy remained high throughout the day as the team maintained communication with each other when releasing the boats into the river. It also helped that the weather was perfect for a great meet, delivering a high of 60 degrees. Although the meet might’ve not had any risk such as GBL qualification, the crowd received the energy from the team and sent it right back. Even though the team didn’t win any races, they managed to maintain a competitive attitude. As this was the first race for a few rowers, it is clear that this team has a bright future ahead of them.
