On April 18, 2026, the Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA) and the Friends of the Malden River held the first annual Youth Climate Summit at Malden City Hall.

Starting around 12 P.M., Malden residents of all ages settled into the Council chamber of the City Hall, patiently awaiting for the event to begin.

Once all attendees were settled in, volunteer Karen Buck split up audience members into small groups to break the ice with an icebreaker.

Attendees had to hold hands with someone in front of them in order to make a human knot, with the idea of working with one another to untangle themselves.

After all knots were untied everyone returned to the chamber. Malden River Media Makers, consisting of students Kevin Pham, Kidus Tsige, Sarah Darius, Nour Howard, and Ryan Sheridan, then introduced themselves and explained how they came to care for the environment.

In their speeches, each media maker introduced a member of MyRWA— Marie Law Adams, Sam Lambert, Isaiah Johnson, Tobe Stromberg and Clair Paduano.

The opening keynote was made by Carey McDonald, sharing her care for the environment.

Afterwards, attendees went into groups of their choice to learn more about what they can do for the environment.
