New Incoming Nurse Kimberly Dube Heals Students Back into Groove

With the introduction of the new school year, there have been many additions to the Malden High School staff team, ranging from new science teachers to math teachers and even Special Education teachers. Malden High now introduces a new member to the nurse roster: Nurse Kimberly Dube.

Having spent most of her career working in the emergency and mental health department, which Dube still loves, she’s now ”ready for something different.”

Dube went into nursing with the passion of “helping people and wanting a career where she could make a difference.” Aspiring to assimilate into the community at Malden High, she described it as “very welcoming”, she hopes to take part in school events and build connections with students and staff.

Rather than just having the health office as a place to “administer medications, and assess illness and injuries,” Dube works on making it a “place where students see as a resource for overall wellness, not just somewhere they go when they’re sick.” Dube also aims to provide a quiet place where the nurses can  “help work through what students are feeling” and connect them to other school support.

“You never really know who is going to walk through the door,” remarked Dube.

A particular ability of hers outside the Emergency Department or Mental Health Department is her ability to socialize and build relationships, stating how she looks forward in seeing them again.

Outside of the stresses that work may bring,  going to the gym is one of Dube’s biggest hobbies.. She passionately expressed her enjoyment in “strength training and challenging herself to get stronger. In the meantime, she treats herself with her favorite meal: tacos, chips, and salsa, declaring: “You can’t go wrong with Mexican food!”

Dube also prioritizes going outside with her family whenever it is nice out. She has four of her kids who are all grown up and living as adults in different parts of the United States, from California to Florida. Although she may be empty-nested, Dube has her hands full having to tend to five dogs, with three of them belonging to her sons. Just to name a few of her many beloved pups, Dube has a three-year-old Husky named Luna and an 11-year-old Bichon Frise named Holly.

Dube strongly advised teenagers to get more sleep. “Teenagers need more sleep than they probably think they do.” Further emphasizing sleep, she added that it “tends to be the first thing sacrificed,” concluding with how “sleep can make a huge difference in how you feel and function during the day.”
