On Monday Feb. 17, various members of Malden High School’s girls and boys track team participated in the state competition. The day long event was held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury Crossing. Runners from the girls team included freshman Tamise Sanders, sophomores Carine Exume and Marie Sylvain, juniors Victoria Hannafin, Amalika Lucien, and Chrislande Joseph and seniors Jacqueline Bouley, Joviana Morin, and Kim Du, as well as senior hurdler Annie Wholley and sophomore Carly Amos for shot put.
Top performances included Wholley who came in 8th in the 55 meter hurdles moved onto finals and came in 7th, as well as qualifying for all-states. As well as Exume placing 7th in the 300 meter dash.
Runners from the boys team included freshman Isaac Mukala, sophomore Allen Liang, and juniors Kingdolph Julien, Jodens Didie, and Haroun Ahmed, and seniors David Kibazo, Janah Chapman and Claude Bonnet, as well as junior Mark Ortiz for shot put.
Top performances included Julien placing 4th in the 600 meter run as well as qualifying for all states and Mukala placing 9th in the same event. Kibazo also placed 7th in the 1000 meter run.
With great performance from both the boys and girls teams at states, Wholley and Julien trained to continue onto all-states that were held February 22, at the Reggie Lewis Center again. Julien placed 14th in the 600 meter run, and Wholley came in 23rd.
Ending the season on an outstanding note, already holding the title of Greater Boston League champions, both teams were able to make MHS proud at states and all-states, finishing the season with a great outcome and making the Malden community proud.
