Malden High School’s art department is preparing for their annual art show, The Blue and Gold Gallery, set to open next week on Thursday, Apr. 7, 2016.  The opening reception will start at 6PM and end at 8PM. Students are encouraged to attend with their families and friends to celebrate the hard work of all art students in all levels.

MHS has a variety of art classes featuring Studio 1 through Advanced Placement, Foundations of Art, Digital Art, and Ceramics.

This year, art teacher Julie Mullane is focusing on teaching Ceramics. There are two levels of the class: Ceramics 1 and 2. The first level is an introductory class for beginners, and the second for more advanced students.

Mullane, who every year is determined to make the gallery look its best, described it as “really beautiful,” so much that “it looks like a professional art show.” From the drawings and paintings that are neatly framed, to the digital artwork and pottery on display, the gallery comes together perfectly year after year all thanks to the art students, Mullane, Joseph Luongo, and Maryann Seager.

Every day, the students and faculty of MHS see the art department’s work on display lined up in the hallway, but “in a different setting,” as Mullane says, “[the artwork] takes on a whole new light, and really does look like a professional art show.”

Mullane’s one piece of advice is to simply “go to the show!”

The exhibit will be open to the public on Monday through Friday from 8AM to 6PM, and Saturday through Sunday from 8AM to 12PM through Thursday, May 19, 2016.
