Play Production Preview: “Some Cupid Kills with Arrows, Some with Traps”

Jesaias Benitez April 6, 2016

The upcoming and final production of Malden High School’s Play Production was written by William Shakespeare, a famous playwright and actor. Known for his famous play Romeo and Juliet, play pro decided to go with something different: a play called Much Ado About Nothing. The original play he wrote takes place in Italy, but this time around, play pro put a twist into it by changing the setting to a summer camp.

As senior Kamila Regalado puts it, “this is the first time in three years we’re doing Shakespeare”. Regalado also told the Blue and Gold that the cast and crew are “planning on putting on the show in the courtyard, [something] that has never been done before”.

For seniors like Sarah Bendell, “[it’s their] last production of the year and [their last production] with Play Pro…but after [high school] [Bendell and others plan] to attend college for Musical Theatre and Theatre Education” to “pursue [their] interests in theatre,” although some may attend college for other interests. Seniors like Ricardo Melgar described Play Pro “by far the best experience in [his] high school career”.

One particular person, senior Sajeanah Cadet explained “[that] this was [her] last show where [she] would be acting with Malden High’s play production, but [loved] acting so much [she feels] like [she] will always be a part of the acting scene.” She may not be acting, but “Mr.Walsh [has] given her the opportunity to help direct the spring show”.

The cast and crew are excited to create and execute their last production of the year. As Bendell explains, “[she] will play Beatrice, which is such a dream come true for [her].”
