GBL Open Cancelled

Alysha McDevitt April 5, 2016 2 minutes read

The Malden High School outdoor track season started on Mar. 21, 2016. The Greater Boston League season opening meet, which is always the first track meet of the season, was scheduled to be on Saturday, Apr. 2, 2016, but was cancelled due to the snow. Every track season, the first meet is meant to be an introductory meet for all the members of the various teams in the GBL.

The meet gives everyone a chance to race for the first time, and see how the competition is doing, but does not count towards the overall record which decides which team will be the GBL champion. With the meet being cancelled, the teams are all being plunged into the season, fairly unaware of the competition, and many of the new runners have never run competitively.

Although the GBL Opening was cancelled, the Malden-Everett meet is still happening, Wednesday, April 6. It is still undecided whether or not the GBL opening meet will be rescheduled, but as of right now, the Everett meet is definite.

The roster for the team has been finalized after the cuts on Friday, Apr. 1, 2016. Together, the boys and girls teams now have approximately 100 runners; in distance, sprinting, and on the field as throwers and jumpers. The team is excited and ready to begin the season, with high expectations and many goals for themselves. Go support the team at MacDonald Stadium tomorrow in their meet against Everett High School.
