Malden High School's Boys Soccer team, the Malden Golden Tornadoes went up against Lowell on Saturday, October 7 and had their first loss of the season leaving their record to 12-1-2.

When asked about the loss, Senior and goalie Manuel Quesada Nylen said that “defense gave the other team too much time with the ball--too much open space. [Their] forwards and offense could have definitely capitalized on more opportunities and put numbers on the board. [They] could have given them a tougher opposition”. However, Quesada Nylen thought that Lowell was great competition and “made [them] feel scared and beat us on [their] home field”.

Coach Jeremiah Smith is proud of the team's accomplishments and does not want the team to be let down over just one game. He finds it as a sign of hard work for the team to get better and to not get too worked up over one loss. Smith wants the team to achieve an elite title because “anything less than that is going to be a little bit disappointing”. He knows the team has the potential to win and advance to the state tournament which is why he has been pushing them to be their greatest.

Although Saturday’s game was a loss, the team won against Winthrop, 3-0, the following Monday and have been continuing the rest of the season with a high record. Going into Mondays game the team wanted to play harder, stronger, and smarter to hopefully pull out a win. Midfield was pointed out by Quesada Nylen and Smith who said that it was the greatest asset to the team and always on point with the game. Malden hopes to get an elite title and win Division 1 North to advance in the state tournament.
