Media Brings New Morning Announcements Feature

This new generation is full of everything visual such as, Tik Tok,  Snapchat, Youtube, and Instagram. On Monday, February 3rd, Malden High School’s media class decided to air their first morning announcements and will now begin updating them to be aired every Monday. There can be many difficulties when doing this project, especially since it is mostly a student-run class, but it is something that the students have been wanting to do for a while. Now that they have the equipment to film and edit the morning announcements, they have the opportunity to air it weekly and it has been showing successful results so far. It adds a brand new element to MHS that makes it even more unique.

It brings a whole new setting into the picture. Media teacher, James Valente stated “[It is] not old school anymore and [it is] not what people want,” and people would much rather watch something than listen to it. This whole new era of the morning announcements has a big impact on students and staff members themselves. Senior, Gabriella Celona, host of the morning announcements on screen, explained that “[they] put a lot of hard work into it and make sure all the important messages are coming from us students.” The hard work is paying off as many students and staff members have expressed positive feedback.

However, there have also been a few bumps in the process of putting this all together. Senior, Omar Pineda says, “[they] each dedicated [themselves] to a different job because [it is] a team effort. Not only one person can do it.” They are putting their best abilities into the work itself and giving it their all when cooperating in this type of project. Each individual has a role, whether that means editing, lighting, or hosting. Sometimes, putting the video together can be a hard task at hand since the students are so busy with other work that they do not always have the time to do these projects.

The ultimate goal for the morning announcements is to have it everyday rather than have it Mondays. As they get comfortable with the process, there will be so much more being added into it, such as, graphics and small videos. Principal, Chris Mastrangelo stated that the morning announcements are “going to really grow—what you see now is going to get bigger.”

Even though it is at its foundational level right now, the project itself will expand and turn into a tradition that people will be proud of knowing MHS takes part in. Senior, Rodge-Neima Joseph stated that, “it is difficult to get people to hear things sometimes” so the advantages of having a video for morning announcements, is that “people would be more prompted to pay attention to [visuals] rather than listening to it.”

The morning announcements are such a great source of information to the students and staff members. It can also get people involved with the school since the morning announcements cover everything from club meeting times, to special events. This new feature is only the beginning for what MHS has planned for the future.
