On Thursday, November 7th, the Senior Center, repurposed as the Teen Center, hosted a meeting about gun violence from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. The meeting was hosted by the organization’s leaders and participants who are actively involved with the community of Malden.

Gun violence is the result of abusing firearms to cause harm to the public. According to statistics compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an average of 132 people are victims of gun violence per day, or one victim every 11 minutes.

“Gun violence in Malden, like in many other areas, changes over time and is influenced by many reasons. Usually, gun violence includes incidents such as murder, assault, robberies, and accidental shootings involving firearms. To understand the importance of the matter, it’s helpful to look at statistics, which can be found through crime-related sites, news networks, and our very own Teen Center,” stated U.S Congresswoman Katherine Clark.

The founders of the organization strive to provide children from all over with the proper information they need in order to maintain a safe environment for themselves and their community. They built the facility based on the need for a safe place for students and seniors.
