The Scoop Re-Opens: Sweet Treats Return to Malden

On Friday, March 21st, the official Instagram account of The Scoop announced that they would be reopening as Malden is once again experiencing the beautiful weather that comes with spring and summer.

Although the ice cream shop has only been established for about a year, the business owned by the Lam family has made a positive impact on Malden since it has offered Malden High students a new hangout spot and even a new job.

Jimmy Lam, manager at The Scoop, has been associated with The Scoop since his childhood. He praised the business for “being about community and quality.” He continued, “We proudly serve premium ice cream from a trusted New England vendor, ensuring every scoop is packed with flavor and nostalgia.”

Lam also mentioned how The Scoop has been a welcoming environment for students at Malden High and that it also has a staff filled with students that attend the school: “We’re proud to have Malden High students not just as our customers, but also as part of our team! Most of our staff are students from Malden High, making The Scoop a place where familiar faces are always behind the counter,” exclaimed Lam. “Plus, we’re conveniently located on bus route 108, making it easy to stop by after school or on weekends for a well-deserved treat.”

This notion has been shared across the student body at Malden High. Moon To, a junior who has worked at The Scoop as a cashier and server for eight months, agreed that “they are incredibly accommodating to students, especially those playing spring sports since it’s the same season. It also provides job opportunities for students, helping them gain work experience, customer service skills, and a sense of responsibility.”

Junior Gabriella Lemus, another student at Malden High, has also been working at The Scoop for about a year. She emphasized the importance of customer service and how a business can only thrive once it establishes it. Lemus believes that “customer service is very important to a positive vibe; it creates a space with someone who seems very approachable and respectful and keeps the business positive as well. It helps create a sense of community when being able to strike up a conversation with a server, or even just be approached with a friendly face.”

However, a successful business also needs positive reviews from its customers. Fortunately, The Scoop’s employees have invited their friends so they can share their own experiences and positive thoughts on The Scoop.

Linh Do, a junior at Malden High, has been a regular at the shop and had only positive thoughts about her experiences. Since she has multiple friends who work at the shop, Do immediately felt welcomed. Do remembered that her “first time at the scoop was very welcoming, especially because my friends Moon To, Gabby Lemus, and Derek Lam work there. They’re very friendly and have really good customer service.”

The Scoop has definitely earned a positive reputation, but ice cream lovers around Malden are encouraged to experience the joy of combining for themselves. Lam encourages everyone to “stay in the loop by following us on Instagram at @thescoop_malden! Our amazing staff loves sharing the latest news, from new flavors to special events.”

Lam concluded, “You can also stop by in-store to see what’s new; there’s always something delicious waiting for you. And don’t forget, word of mouth is powerful, so if you love The Scoop, please spread the word to your family and friends!” The Scoop is open every day of the week from 12 pm to 9 pm.
