On Tuesday, April 15th, the Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse team made their way to Pine Banks to play in a game versus Somerville. The score ended up being 18-6, with Somerville beating Malden.
Sophomore offensive player Francesca Marenghi emphasized, “Everyone had a good spirit today, which overall helped the nature of the game; it was a positive vibe.” Another sophomore offensive player, Nyla Pierre, added that even though we lost, everyone communicated well.”
Though the girls lost, there are more opportunities for them to take home wins before the lacrosse season concludes. Through this loss, the lacrosse girls learned and grew through their experience. Marenghi vocalized, “We are riding yet another loss, so it’s sad going home with a loss, but in the end, we did well. An improvement could have been passing the ball more to open teammates and more communication on defense.” Pierre added, “We’re struggling to stay on the girl you’re guarding. Offensively, we have a hard time transitioning the ball down the field.”
In Tuesday’s game, Pierre scored one point, senior Makenzie Jenkins scored another, and Jeslyn San led the team with four goals. Marenghi praised her teammates, stating, “Jeslyn, Kenzie, and Nyla are always the star players on the field—they give 110% always.”
Even though the scoreboard was not in their favor, the girls showed heart, teamwork, and determination—building blocks for the wins that lie ahead.
