Humans of Malden 2/25

Sam Martinez February 25, 2016

By Meghan Yip and Sam Martinez

“Last summer, I traveled to Guatemala, where my sister was born. My family adopted her when she was less than a year old, about ten years ago. It was a hard adjustment for her to make, even though she was very young, and this always was evident in her behavior. My family and I always tried our best to support her. Despite the fact that she constantly felt a sensation of loss for her birth mother, her general disposition as a young child was cheerful and loving. She never failed to think of the needs of those around her. I have always admired that strong emotional connection she had and the way she looked out for others. Last summer, she met her birth mother for the first time. When they met, they cried because such a vast amount of time had passed since they had last held each other. Their meeting last summer was the beginning of a beautiful bond that would last for a long time, and also mended a place in my sister’s heart, and changed the dynamic of our family.” #humansofmaldenhigh
