As the Malden High Crew starts off the season, the members on the team are hoping to have a successful and exceptional season.
Junior Sebastian Romani says that because of the crazy weather the team has been experiencing, they have been conditioning inside and continuing with the workouts. The team has also been showing the novice how to row or urg on the machine, which Romani says “[the team is] doing great [at].”
Sophomore Julia Argueta explains that the performances the day of the indoor regatta were all great. She continued to explain that not only was the regatta great for Malden but also for the competing teams, Somerville and Everett. She said, “Everyone showed up that day as strong competitors and tried their very best.”
According to Argueta, the members on the team had different personal goals they wanted to achieve such as keeping a constant pressure or adjusting their rating on the erg. She added that most importantly, most were focused on getting a personal record. She noted that many people had great performances overall which consisted of personal records.
Sophomore Ketlyn Picinin Nunes hopes that this season the team is able to break their personal records and “get a lot of victories.” She also believes that all the performances went well and that “everyone did very good and all of them tried their best.”
Nunes continued to elaborate on the fact that despite the regatta going well, she wishes she could have gotten a “little bit” of a better timing and not using too much of her energy in the beginning.
As for Argueta, she believes that the regatta could not have gone smoother than it did but wishes that there could have been more teams in on the fun as there was last year.
Argueta hopes to improve on her skills based on what she has learned from her coaches and others but more importantly hopes to achieve many goals as a team.
Nunes has a goal of bringing her time down to “at least nine minutes” as well as helping get her boat to victory. She continues to add that she wants to improve on not rushing too much in the beginning of the 2K, “because that is what usually makes [her] tired too quickly.”
Argueta concluded that the season is already been off to a good start, with new members and getting on the water. She hopes to come together as a team and win races.
Overall, the MHS Crew team is off to a great season and hopes to continue doing well.
