The highly anticipated film Avengers: Endgame released in the United States on April 26th, 2019.
This movie is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and features an all-star cast including the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson.
After the events of Avengers: Infinity War, in which the villain, Thanos, wiped out half of all life in the universe, the remaining Avengers are struggling to cope with the fact that they had actually lost the battle. There is a sense of desperation from every hero as they strive to find a way to restore the universe to the way it was before Thanos despicably decimated it.
Endgame’s runtime is a staggering 3 hour-long experience, which may make some people turn their heads away, but honestly the runtime is justified due to the immense amount of information that is dealt in the film. Just make sure to remember this because there will not be any intermissions at any point in the movie.
This film has fast-paced, exciting fight sequences, which is expected of a comic book blockbuster, however this is unlike any other comic book movie. This is a direct sequel to Infinity War, and in turn addresses and deals with its tragic events in a well-welcomed somberness and devastation that any normal human would feel if these events were to occur in real life. In this film, the Avengers are not the seemingly invincible heroes they were in the previous entries of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the entire cast does a great job of not just playing and acting as superheroes, but also making these characters feel the most human they have ever felt in any other film. It is completely refreshing to see a movie in which superheroes are desperate and are clearly showcased as humans that are not completely invulnerable.
In addition to this, the movie is the culmination of an eleven-year long cinematic journey that has created a magnitude of different interconnecting characters and plots that is only truly appreciated if you have watched the rest of the franchise. The Russo brothers did not intend to make this movie for casual moviegoers who have not witnessed the evolution of these characters for the past 22 films. Anybody who goes into this movie blind, without understanding the characters previous adventures and struggles, will not get the same satisfaction and enjoyment from this movie than somebody who has stuck around for the long haul and is emotionally invested in these characters.
Finally while the attention will go to the directors and actors and actresses, and rightfully so, when you buy a movie ticket to this film, you will experience the amazing work that hundreds and hundreds of people have poured into their craft. In a movie of this tremendous size, it requires extreme dedication and commitment from every person involved with its creation and development. From the sound department to the vfx crew, this movie’s gigantic fight scenes and beautiful cinematography compliments greatly the fantastic acting and directing that this film has to offer.
For any fans of the superhero-movie genre, Avengers: Endgame is a must-watch action-packed ride that exceptionally concludes an emotional eleven years of storytelling and world building and I highly recommend it to everybody who has seen the tremendous growth of this comic book cinematic universe that Marvel Studios has genius-ly created.
