Senior Sunrise: Class of 2025

On September 6th, the Class of 2025 came together for an early morning at MacDonald Stadium for its first class event of the year. 

The fairly new event brought the class together for the beginning of the end of a long chapter for the new seniors. After the CO ’25 Instagram sent out a poll for students to decide on its location, they were left with a split vote between Waitts Mount and MacDonald Stadium. Eventually, students agreed for the event to take place at 5:30 AM at MacDonald Stadium.  

Despite the cloudy weather, students still gathered together for a cheerful event. For many, the day was about becoming a senior: “It was a good opportunity to get together and celebrate finally becoming seniors,” said senior Darian O’Brien. During the event, students played games, took pictures, listened to music, and enjoyed an early breakfast from Dunkin’. Students also brought signs and friends from other schools to kick off the year with a memorable moment. As the sunrise peaked, MHS Principal Chris Mastrangelo organized students to take a full class picture. Additionally, students gathered for pictures with their middle schools to reflect on the past and remember who they have grown up with. 

With the year starting off quickly, seniors will look forward to the exciting year ahead but will also look back on what has happened throughout their four years of high school. For many, the thought of leaving behind their high school years may leave them afraid or even happy. For senior Daniel Da Silva, “The thought of it might be scary to some… but, there’s something comforting about it knowing this is my final year of high school and knowing that I will be able to meet new people—basically a new opportunity on how people can view you and be able to be in control of my life and decisions.”

The Class of 2025 looks forward to hosting its next event: homecoming week, which will conclude with the Masquerade dance on October 4th.

Thomas Tierney is a new member of The Blue & Gold this year. Thomas is currently in his junior year at Malden High School. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is of Irish and British descent. At Malden High, Thomas is currently the boys varsity soccer goalkeeper. He hopes to play at the next level in a Divison 2 or 3 collegiate setting. When he is not making saves in front of the net, Thomas enjoys playing video games like Madden NFL, NBA 2K and Call of Duty. He also loves watching his favorite show, The Walking Dead, and watching movies in the Marvel Universe. Thomas is a part of the travel club where in his sophomore year, he went to Puerto Rico. Thomas chose to take the Blue & Gold this year because he heard that it was very interesting and he loves writing.
