Safa Niazi

Safa Niazi is a senior at Malden High School and Senior Lead Reporter for The Blue and Gold, dedicated to capturing stories that intersect culture, policy, and human resilience. Displaced from Afghanistan in 2020, her journey spanned four countries and four languages before arriving in the United States, shaping her into a multicultural thinker and student advocate. Beyond the newsroom, Niazi is a 2026 statewide Christian A. Herter Scholar, a delegate with YMCA’s Youth & Government, and a co-founder of Zamima, an initiative supporting 90 Afghan girls across two Provinces inside Afghanistan, and has practiced traditional Pashto and Dari poetic calligraphy since age seven. Niazi views reporting as a civic duty: using the power of truth, deep societal context, and investigative storytelling to give voice to the unspoken, challenge systemic barriers, and illuminate the strength of diverse communities.
