As the spring season continues, so does the success of Malden High School’s Girls Track team. So far into the season, the girls have won against Somerville with a score of 69-67 and Everett with a final score of 101-30. Competing against Medford on Apr. 29, 2014, was a difficult task at first considering the weather conditions however, despite the intense winds and blistering cold, the runners did a successful job in remaining undefeated in the season by winning their event.

At the meet they scored 102-28, with 12 of 15 first places, 14 of 14 second places, and 7 of 13 third places. First place finishers include senior Kim Du in the 400m hurdles with a time of 66.2 seconds and javelin throwing 81’9” feet. Along with this, senior Joviana Morin competed in the 800 meter race, running a time of 2:39, and sophomore Carine Exume ran in the 100m with a final time of 13.1 seconds. Freshman Marisa Vasquez came in first in the 2 mile as well, with the time of 14:04, and freshman Taymise Sanders placed first in the 200m.

Sanders, along with Exume, senior Annie Wooley and junior Amalika Lucien, ran the 4×100 relay and placed in first with their time of 53.6 seconds. Finally, wrapping up the events, senior Jacqueline Bouley ran the mile race with the time of 6:23 and junior Diamond Jones got the distance of 29’3 feet in the shotput. Along with these compeitions senior Tiffany Wong reached 26’10’ feet in the triple jump, and sophomore Jennie Xie reached 71’0” in the discus. Overall, the meet was a success and the team has high hope for finishing the season with strong strides.
