Girls Lacrosse: Malden v. Revere

Anna Powers May 13, 2016

On May 2, 2016 Malden played against a fierce opponent, the Revere patriots. Although they started the game off strong, Malden lost 1-8. Junior Bridget Murphy-Courteau scored the goal shortly after half-time. Murphy-Courteau has proven to have been a valuable player on the team and helps to motivate fellow team members with her words of encouragement during the game.

Junior Rene Spadafora sets goals for herself every game to “keep [herself] on track. For [this] specific game [she] was working on [her] footwork and stepping up to the ball.” Spadafora explained that the defense looks to protect the goal as best they can from the opposing team.

Junior Desiree Delgado plays as varsity goalie. Delgado described this game as one of the best, with the highlight of the game being the fact that she ran about 20 yards, “which is a lot because [she] is a goalie.” Delgado is also a very powerful voice on the field, always standing in the right place of the net, cheering on her team’s offense as they look to score. She also describes Revere as a very tough opponent because although they are in the same skill level as Malden, their team has been playing longer and they have more experienced.

When dealing with losses, team members such as Spadafora say that “[they] always try to work [their] hardest so [she] thinks [their] teamwork was great considering all the girls with injuries. Looking ahead, Spadafora aims to take more initiative and to “make sure [the team] always has a positive mindset.” The team’s next game is on May 17, 2016.
