The girls’ tennis team has had a great season, and is continuing to improve in their last games. Monday, May 23, a game was held against Lawrence, for the second time. The team won 5-0.

The game started strong, with every Malden player winning their first set out of the two sets in each match. Junior Zanta Ephrem was among the first to end her sets and eventually match with a win. Ephrem, who plays in singles matches, credited her win to her persistence, which is important because “you have to be persistent” in tennis. “When [Lawrence] threw short balls, [Ephrem] could run really quickly.”

Junior Emily Zou, playing doubles, believes that “teamwork and communication, [they] did really well in. [They are] the most important factors in tennis: you [have to] communicate well with your partner.”

First-year Malden High tennis coach Julie Fox says the team did well during this game: “Specifically today, they’ve been doing really well […]. I think today, and especially against Lawrence, even last time, they’ve really been executing [well] and taking advantage of when they can make good shots, and taking advantage of the other team’s weaknesses.”

Malden won the entire match, the score 5-0. This means each player, or group of players, won their match and  eventually concluded the game. This is the second to last game, along with another scheduled for Tuesday on May 24.
