Splashing Into the New Season

At the end of the season last year, the Malden High School swim team had a perfect record in the Greater Boston League. This year, the team is going to be competing in the Northeastern Conference and Assistant Coach Bisson is hoping to  “put in a lot of effort and improve, be a very close knit team, and have fun”. The team is coached by both Jessica Bisson and Paul DeVincentis.

This year will be a pretty strange year for the swim team because they are joining Northeastern Conference, but they are hoping they can “Rebuild this year, because (they) have lost a lot of good swimmers and are going up against a whole new competition” said Bisson.

Last year’s expectations for  Bisson were to be a “close knit team, that has successful meets, brings a large group to states, and break records”. They managed to meet all of those expectations by winning all of their meets and making it to the top ten in states. This year,  Bissons expectations are “Rebuilding, putting in a lot of effort, being a close knit team, improving times, and having fun.”

This season will be pretty difficult for the swim team because they have lost a few of their strong swimmers and the team is smaller this year, and because they are in a new league against more teams that are stronger, it will be difficult to rebuild and get to the strength that they were at last year, but they seem excited and up for the challenge.

Junior Agatha Silva, who is one of the MHS swimming captains this year, said that she would like for the team to “try to be better and win at least a couple of their meets.” And she seems “excited for the challenge of a new league” and hopes to make it to states again this year.
