The MHS Girls Lacrosse team won their first game of the season against St. Joseph’s Prep on Monday, April 9th, ending with a score of fifteen to three. Although this was a hard game, the varsity girls pulled through.

With this being the first game that the team had won in six seasons, Junior Dijana Masic expresses her excitement for the team and explained that the team has been striving for this moment. She stated that “[the team is] thrilled [to have obtained] this victory together as a team, but [they are] even more excited to continue growing and to keep getting more wins, because now [they] have confidence in [themselves] to really prosper.”

Sophomore Angelena Nguyen, revealed that while “another dub will be hard, [the team] will come together.”

During the game, there was one member of the team that was injured but Nguyen explains that the team “worked well together to try and recover from one of the best players on the team getting hurt.”

Masic stated that the people she believes that stood out were, “Kaitlyn Mini, Nguyen, and Senior Captain Leila Greige, Blue and Gold Co-Editor In Chief of Print, as [they] were responsible for most of the 15 goals scored.” While on the defense side, Masic stated that “Juniors Ana Oliveira and Delilah Doeleman stood out especially in holding the other team from scoring.”

Masic believes that “[The team needs] to improve on passing the ball more, because although [they] have many strong scorers, [they] should apply all the passing drills that [they] have used in practice in order to obtain even more goals in games.”

In addition, Nguyen said that the team needs to work on their communication, saying that “[although the team] is already close, [we] could be more interactive with one another.”

During the game, the defense team was created a “defensive wall” prevented the other team from scoring a lot. The defense team also did a good at getting the ball back from the other team and passing it up the field so the offense can get it to score.

Overall, the team is very pleased with their success and looks forward to continuing to improve throughout the season.
