Angela Tejada Soliz Accepted to West Point

Senior Angela Soliz was accepted to West Point earlier in April, bringing Congresswoman Clark to congratulate her with a picture of the two together, however Soliz has decided that the best option for her would be to attend the Coast Guard Academy.

In 1801, shortly before entering office, Thomas Jefferson set plans to establish West Point Academy. Notable Alumni include Buzz Aldrin, Ulysses S. Grant, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Robert E. Lee. Known for being one of the most difficult schools to get accepted into, West Point Academy requires a GPA of 3.74 attend. You need to have taken algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, along with 4 years of english, 2 years of a foreign language, two years of science, and one year of US History. When Angela Tejada Soliz was accepted into West Point Academy, it was an achievement to be revered.

To get into West Point, you do not simply need a high GPA. It requires an endorsement from a representative in Congress, a senator, or the Vice President. You can also be related to somebody who served. For example, if your father served in Army, Navy, Air Force, or others, you don’t need an endorsement from the aforementioned candidates. four letters of recommendation are also required.

According to Katherine Clark’s Office, you need to “[notify their] office that you would like to be considered, which can be done on [their] website” You must submit “three letters of recommendation, personal essay, professional resume, school transcripts, and either an SAT or ACT score.”

After going through the process above, “you need to apply directly with the academies and receive qualification from them, which come in the form of academics, physical fitness, and a medical screening.” Finally, you have to conduct a panel interview at the Congresswoman’s office conducted by “a board of veterans, active duty officers, and current academy parents”

Angela Tejada Soliz received an endorsement from Katherine Clark, who has served as a United States representative for Massachusetts’s 5th Congressional district since 2013. On Twitter, Clark wrote on the subject of Soliz saying, “Angie makes me so optimistic for our country’s future. At just 18, she’s driven by service, community and looking out for others. These are the values that knit us together as Americans and must guide our work in Washington. #ForThePeople #Malden.” She also brought Soliz as her guest to the State of the Union in February, and even introduced Soliz to Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House.

On the subject of West Point Academy, the prestigious school offers more than 45 Academic majors to choose from, and is fully funded, which means tuition is completely free, unlike most colleges.
