With countless posters covering the halls around Malden High School, the Writers’ Den: Den in December event has caught many students’  attention.

The Writers’ Den, located near the back of the MHS library, is an amazing resource for students seeking writing help or tutoring. Revely “Rev” Rothschild, who has been staffing the Den since the beginning of the year, has gained an immense reputation among students. “Rev has an amazing relationship with the students and is very approachable,” explained Stephen Nedell, the MHS librarian.

Senior Valentina “Val” Hernandez has been a prime user of the Den during “Den in December.” “Rev is someone who is very welcoming and super understanding, they make you feel comfortable while helping you out. They go above and beyond when it comes to editing and helping you out,” emphasized Hernandez.

As the Den continues to grow in popularity, Rothschild has spent abundant time gaining more awareness of the Den “in order to get more engagement with writers.” They are working on creating monthly focuses where students can come in for help about a specific topic.

“Den in December” primarily focuses on help with college applications and resumes for seniors. “I know that right now, a lot of seniors are focusing on college applications, and everybody else has big winter projects coming up soon, so I was hoping this December to focus on those and they would help with awareness of the Den,” stated Rothschild.

“I think that [the focus of “Den in December” is so helpful,” shared Hernandez. Hernandez continued to share that Den in December has been a crucial step in the completion of their college essay while expressing gratitude towards Rothschild for “helping out through the entire essay process.”

Rothschild and Hernandez both hope that more people come in to use the Den. “I think that the Den just feels like such a safe place where you can go and get help with writing. It should be more known and advertised more by teachers because Rev is somebody that goes above and beyond when helping students,” concluded Hernandez.

Even with these monthly focuses, the Den remains open for anyone seeking writing help. If you’re interested in receiving help, be sure to email rrothschild@maldenps.org for more information!
