Closing the Semester, Freshman Edition

The conclusion of the first semester also marks the first completed semester by the Class of 2028. The final days of the first semester can be incredibly stressful for freshmen. This is the beginning of a significant transition in their academic journey, and the pressure to perform can be overwhelming.

Freshmen are often navigating new social dynamics, adjusting to a more rigorous academic workload, and establishing effective study habits–all while dealing with the natural anxiety that comes with being in a new environment.

“I remember always getting lost the first week I was here,” said freshman Aya Senami. “The school is a lot bigger than the middle school I went to, and I got really stressed trying to find my way around classes while also not being late to them.”

Due to the workload and the extra pressure on grades, ninth graders can lose motivation to finish work, which applies to every grade, and perhaps even teachers as well.

“I just need to push myself harder to have better grades; I just need the right motivation for it,” freshman Arantza Colina Perez expressed.

Positive motivation is needed, especially when students have a plethora of homework and assignments to complete every week. “The homework load is insane. I spend hours every night doing homework and sometimes it leads to me staying up late, which causes problems for me to wake up in the morning,” continued Perez.

This is a common experience, and sometimes referred to as The Freshman Flunk; so, it is important to remember that you are not alone. All that is important is the right mindset and strategies to allow yourself to succeed and perform well in academics.
