The Tornados Blow Away the Tides: Pass, Set, Hit!

On April 11th at 4:00 pm, Finn Gym welcomed audience members to watch the Boys’ Junior Varsity’s seat-gripping volleyball game between the Malden Golden Tornados and Everett Tides. This was Malden’s second home game—the previous being with Chelsea on April 5th—and they did not disappoint. The first set began with successful hits and receives, and incredible teamwork from players. The ball was passed smoothly between the players, allowing for awe-worthy passes, hits, and a comfortable lead. The Tornados took the first set with a score of 1-0.

The second and last set were far more intimidating, with both sides having incredible plays and neck-to-neck competition. The Tides had picked up their pace and got an idea of how our players were strategizing, giving them an advantage. Despite Everett catching up in score, Malden did not falter and kept giving it their all, showing tremendous effort and great coaching from Joshua Sellers, the JV coach and Math 2/Statistics teacher at Malden High.

As the end neared, there was only one question: Who would make it to 25 points first in the last set? The gym began to grow louder and louder with each miss and hit, both Everett and Malden supporters sitting on the edge of their seats, waiting for the outcome of the night. Finally, the game concluded with a score of 2-0, with Malden taking the victory, and the audience jumping to celebrate their win. Boys’ Volleyball team’s next home game, will be on April 16th at 4:00 pm in Finn Gym, facing Revere.
