With warmer temperatures rising and the sun beginning to peek out from the sky, the weather is ready for summer activities and to bring everyone outdoors after a long school year. For the Class of 2028, the weather called for perfect for a cookout. On June 5th, the Class hosted their first spring event, the Schools’ Out Cookout.

After school on the 5th, students quickly gathered in the courtyard to enjoy some delectable food, games, and entertainment on a warm day, where the temperature peaked around 90 degrees. Some varieties of food consisted of hot dogs, pizza, lemonade, slushies, candy, and much more. The slushies and lemonade were a popular item, due to the scorching heat, which caused many students to gravitate towards the cooling treats.

Along with the many delicious food items available for students, many games followed alongside the refreshments. Some games varied from throwing the axe, sandbag toss, mini basketball, giant Jenga, and the main attraction of it all was dunk the tank. For many students, their favorite aspect was seeing their favorite teachers be dunked, and having the capability to be a part of it. Junior Ndiaye Oliver commented, “Seeing Ms. Meranda get tanked, was quite honestly the peak of my day.” Many students, teachers, and even parents crowd to watch the various teachers get dunked. Some of these teachers consisted of teachers from various departments, such as Paul Marques, Michel-Le Meranda, Brian Bates, and more.

Meanwhile, while the teacher became submerged in water, other students quietly conversed with others while playing their favorite games. Many students collaborated in activities such as giant Jenga, creating conversation, and spreading laughter throughout the courtyard. For many, it’s a great opportunity to connect to others in their grade, they may not be familiar with. Freshman Alyssa Lynch mentioned, “It makes us seem like a great community, being able to see your teachers be real outside the classroom”.

Some highlights of the afternoon, for Lynch, consisted of the community and being surrounded by others in her class. For Oliver, a highlight was a “nice snack” after a “long and difficult day.”

Overall, the Class of 2028 started off their first year with a strong council, hosting many enjoyable, community connecting events, furthermore connecting their class with memories to last a lifetime. Forward, they continue to strive and host more delectable events in the future. For Updates on the Class of 2028 future events, check out their Instagram @maldenco_28.
