The results are in. Everyone running for an officer position was on their toes, wondering who was going to be a part of the next student council for the Class of 2027.
Many good candidates were running, and people had trouble picking who they wanted. At the end of the day on May 1st, they announced the elected officers: President Alexia Maciel Lima (who is also a Blue and Gold Managing Editor), Vice President Rosalyn Ruan, Secretary Cat Tuong Nguyen, Treasurer Sofia Vargas, Art Director Krystalyn Vo, Volunteer Coordinator Sofia Evoras, Senior Activities Coordinator is Raquel Ferreira, Event Coordinators Jazlyne Rugggeiro, Emilly De Farias Weihrauch (who is also Head of Local for the Blue and Gold), Chelmie Hyppolite (who is also a Blue and Gold Managing Editor, and Wongel Yohannes, and Social Media Coordinators Evelyn Ruan (who is Head of Sports for the Blue and Gold) and Anniyah Azhar.
The winners of the election expressed extreme happiness, with returning officers continuing to create a stronger bond. “I’m glad I get to work with some of the previous members of the student council again,” said Rosalyn Ruan. Hyppolite agreed, expressing a similar statement, “I was really happy that I won again and I was excited for everyone that won.”
Hopes are high for the Class of 2027, as their senior year approaches fast. “I plan on following the same routine that the current seniors have, just put more of our own class ideas into it,” said Ferreira. Many of these events have become a senior tradition, and the council has plans to maintain those traditions, while still coming up with more fun things for their peers.
Fundraisers are already being planned. Plans for a semi-formal are being talked about. This dance, along with many others, will contribute to the upcoming seniors’ funds. This will take money off of caps, gowns, and prom tickets.
Student council members expressed that making sure prom is “memorable and inclusive” is a top priority, shared Rosalyn Ruan, with the hope that their class would graduate with no regrets.
With the 2026 to 2027 school year being their last year in high school, many rising seniors like Aaliyah Ferreira hope to “have an amazing senior year.”
