As the spring sports season comes to an end, the Malden High Girls softball team stays determined to continue to win. On April 29th, the team went against Everett High School’s softball team. Unfortunately, they lost and concluded with a score of 27-9. However, even after these tough losses the team continued to stay hopeful as the season progressed.
This year, the softball team “has a lot of seniors” according to Head Coach Rebecca Krigman who also shared, “we’re definitely going to miss them next year; they’re holding our team together right now.” Despite the departure of the majority of the team, the team also has “a lot of middle schoolers who are already hitting balls, and …they caught a bunch of flyballs and they’re doing great,” said senior Nour Jaayfer. All of the seniors and underclassmen work together to stay positive to keep the team strong and competitive for the rest of the season.

Even with a slow start of the season, the team uses their teamwork to persevere throughout the season. “I’ve seen people have more contact with the ball; we’re improving, and we’re scoring more points,” expressed senior Sania Chen. Krigman also shared, “we’ve made a lot of progress, we won our first game a couple weeks ago, and they’ve been working really hard,” indicating that the team is continuing to stay very competitive despite a rough start to the season.

The seniors shared some advice to the underclassmen for when it’s their time to step up and lead the team. “Be consistent and show up,” Chen shared. Jaayfer added on with “my advice is to just keep going, never give up, and show up to practice with a mindset that you are going to do this.”
“We just have to keep working hard, keep hitting, keep feeling the ball, and keep working together as a team,” concluded Krigman.
