The Malden Public Library, used by many everyday, welcomes any and everyone with open arms. Not only is it used to study and find interesting books, but it is also known for holding historical information and pieces of extraordinary art to spark up community interest.

Towards the left of the building, the library hosts Converse Art galleries every Wednesday and Saturday from 2-4 p.m. to showcase some of the historical figures that were involved in the library, as well as pieces of art from talented artists.

As soon as you enter the room you are greeted with brown, semi circle shaped ceilings, wooden tables, and red chairs. In the corner is a fireplace, two wooden chairs,  and book shelves  filled with books.

Near the end of the room is a door leading outside to the garden that is dedicated to Frank Converse. The Malden High School, the church, and the street is visible from here. The library chooses to open this garden whenever the weather is clear and refreshing.

The Converse Art gallery was named after the family of Converse, who are known for creating the best-selling shoe brand: Converse. Portraits of Elijah Slade Converse, his wife Mary Dean Converse, and their son Frank Converse are propped up on the wall. The Converse family built the area with their private funds.

In front of the portraits are cased shoes. One of the pairs are gold Converse sneakers while the other pair are boots from the Boston Rubber shoe CO.

Along with the Converse’s, a big portrait was held in the middle of the room with the name Lincoln at Gettysburg inscribed, which was interestingly made by a Malden artist named Albion Bicknell.

On the left side of the room, are pieces of art made by another gifted Malden artist named Frank Stella.. Art made by  Stella is outside of the library, giving simple directions to different locations.

The next room is loaded with phenomenal types of art. Statues, paintings, and other fascinating pieces. They also come in a variety of sizes. Some pieces of art show similar meanings while others demonstrate unique characteristics.

The Malden Public Library is not just for finding books and studying, but also for opening your mind to new and different pieces of art composed from gifted artists and acknowledging the history of the library.
