The Swim Clinic is a place where families in Malden can come by to learn to swim and be around encouraging swimmers from the Malden High Swim team. Coach Jessica Bisson runs the swim clinic every Saturday around 9 am to 11 am in the Malden High school. 9 to 10 am are the hours for youth swimmers and 10 to 11 am are for older swimmers. Around 30 families attend the swim clinic on a regular basis and 80 families on a email list. Freshman Gelila Lemma stated that the purpose of swim clinic is to “allow families who are not financially able to afford to go to a pool and swim” they have a free alternative to go to the Malden High school.

Coach Bisson enjoys running the swim clinic. She is motivated to run the swim clinic because she has a passion for helping children learn to swim. Majority of the swim team attends  the swim clinic to help out adults, and children. Bisson stated that the swim clinic creates an environment where people can be comfortable to learn from the swim team. Another freshman swimmer Samantha Tang stated that the swim clinic is important because “it’s important to learn how to move around in the water”.

Bisson stated that the “ultimate goal of the swim clinic is [to] have the community, especially the high school who doesn’t know how to swim, learn to swim.” The swim clinic was originally started to help the community and teach water safety. Bisson loves all the members who attend the clinic and the swim team members are happy to help the community more and create a good atmosphere for everyone to swim. Bisson stated that “[she] loves to see children grow and progress as swimmers” and soon “join the malden high swim team once [they’re] in high school”.

Overall, the swim clinic is a safe and fun place for families to come by and learn to swim. Swim Clinics are every Saturday at 9 am to 11 am here at the Malden High School pool. Swimmers have grown and progressed in this clinic by making it a good environment to dive in and learn, even if you don’t have any experience.
