Midterm week is one of the weeks that can stress students out the absolute most. Midterms go on for three days and which lead to students being required to take one to three midterms a day. Therefore, when midterms are over, students may feel the most tired because of the exams and the amount of work that can be pressured on them.

To relieve some of the stress this year, Principal Chris Masterangelo had set up some events to help students de-stress after taking exams all week. Brunelli House Principal Heather Northrop, the adjustment counselors, and Mastrangelo all worked with each other to set up the fun programs and activities.

First, there was a Mandala coloring activity and students had the opportunity to make stress balls in the school gallery. There were also social workers there as well to help out. This happened on Tuesday, January 21st, which was the first day of midterms.

The next day on Wednesday, the 22nd, they brought in therapy dogs which happened in room number H202. Students were able to play around with these dogs from 11:30 a.m to 1:00 p.m.

On Thursday, the last day of midterms, there was the opportunity for open gym activities. Students had the opportunity to go there, relax and have fun with their friends from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.

The staff hopes that students were able to de-stress from these activities so they can take a break, relax, and celebrate their hard work and effort that they put into these exams.

About the Author

Jana Elshafey

Contributor

Jana Elshafey is a sophomore at Malden High School, and was a part of the Blue and Gold Newspaper last year. For her return this year as a reporter, she plans on comparing the articles she worked on her freshman year with the ones she is going to write this year in order to improve her craft and watch her growth. Elshafey feel[s] that she will “prosper” this year due to the class being smaller, which will allow her to focus on getting her work done more efficiently. Reflecting on her freshman year, she spoke of Journalism being her favorite class and mentioning it was by far the best experience at MHS, especially with Mr.Gallagher as the teacher. Her favorite part of taking this elective is “having the freedom to write creatively about a topic that allows [her] to express ideas as a writer.” It is because of this that she decided to come back for her sophomore year! Elshafey adds that she will be walking around the school in her trendy outfits with what she describes as both “chic and comfy,” in hopes of displaying her confidence, which is what she’s all about.
