Now that the MHS Crew team is off to a good start, the members on the team are hoping to have a successful rest of the season which will result in more wins.

Sophomore Julia Argueta expresses that despite the season progressing, it has been nothing but “wonderful” to be out on the water especially when there in nice weather. She continues to explain that throughout this season, the team is constantly supporting and cheering one another on hoping to win a couple of races.

Argueta adds that personally for her it has been another enjoyable year of crew although there is a slight change in her going from novice to varsity. She states that the whole team loves to race and “enjoys one another’s company.”

Sophomore Ketlyn Picinin Nunes also expresses that so far this season the season is going really “good” and that everyone is trying their best to win many of the races.

Nunes describes that working on coordination is something she still hopes to make improvements on. Despite having to make some improvements individually, Nunes mentions that the coaches help them a lot when they are confused on how to do something.

According to Nunes, what still needs to be improved on is working together because of the fact that there are a few people who rush when rowing which may be too fast for others. She states, “so it’s a little bit hard to work together when that happens.”

Argueta believes that as for herself, she mostly needs to improve with having a better form within the boat, “whether it's either punching my arms out faster or getting better at following the person in front of me.”

Argueta plans to apply herself in order to add to a positive aspect within the boat and as a team member. She mentions how she will achieve these goals by grasping helpful advice and constructive criticism from the coaches and applying it to rowing.

One of Nunes goals is to lengthen more of her strokes considering she has “short legs” so the strokes are short and that doesn’t really help move the boat.

Overall, both Nunes and Argueta come to the agreement that they hope the remainder of the season goes smoothly and that they are able to get stronger as a team and win more races.
