Through November 29th and November 30th, Malden held two annual tree lightings, at Fellsmere Park and at the Malden Public Library.

Mayor Gary Christenson mentions about the tree lighting and its significance to Malden. Christenson says that it was “Councilor Craig Spadafora started the tradition at Fellsmere Park and the City’s annual tree lighting has been in place for as long as [he] can remember.” The reason as to why the tree lighting all started was because “both traditions were initiated as a way to bring the community together and kick-off the holiday season.”

What usually happened beforehand was “just the citywide tree lighting but Councillor Spadafora wanted to do something more as has Councillor Camell who led an effort this year to have a tree in Maplewood Square.”
