On December 13th, 2019, the Malden Teen Enrichment Center was moved to a nearby location on Ferry Street. The reason the Teen Center was moved was because the owner of the building that the Teen Center was located in did not want it there anymore. Malden Highschool students who regularly go to the Teen Center have different thoughts about the move.

Damien Cuevas, a sophomore at Malden High, goes to the Teen Center frequently. He says the move “really [was not] difficult, it was only moving over a building so it [did not] matter all that much.” Within the Teen Center, there was a vault and the area “[was not] meant for kids.” The owner most likely saw it this way and was a large factor in the reasoning for the move. Since the Teen Center’s current location is temporary, the permanent location will most likely be further away from the highschool. “Since it is being moved further away from the school it [will not] be as convenient,”’ says Cuevas. “When going there [he] certainly believe[s] that maybe [it will] be more comfortable having more room.”

As of now, the Teen Center seems to be doing fine with the temporary move and no complications have shown up. Frequent goers seem to be satisfied with the change and there was not too much disruption. The previous center location has been hollowed out and all of the items were removed from it. Hopefully, in the near future, we will see the new permanent location of the Teen Center, one that will not be too inconvenient for those who go for its relativity to MHS.
