Malden boys varsity basketball opens up their season with a narrow 59-52 loss against Everett. With high hopes for the opening season, Malden faces early adversity. Despite losing a number of seniors this past year, Malden brings in new hopes led by senior captain Ezekiel Noelsaint.

Throughout the game, the leading score went back and forth between Malden and Everett, with the latter securing the final lead. Despite the disappointing loss, Malden showed fight and determination throughout the game. A young team that lost many seniors has already shown just how high their potential can be. With the team being primarily juniors and sophomores, Malden looks to continue and build on their potential.

Playing Everett in any sport is not an easy thing to do. Between the energy and the amount of students and parents watching the games, it can be hard for teams to play against. The energy the Everett student section brings to games of all sports—but specifically, basketball—is very impressive. Despite this, Malden fought through it and kept the final score to a narrow number. In Malden’s last game against Everett, they were defeated in Everett as well, but early in the 2022-2023 season, Malden defended its home court and beat Everett by a score of 59-46. This is a trend Malden is hoping to see in its later game this season against Everett on January 11th.

The interesting thing about starting a new season is that fans never know what to expect. Malden High School is full of surprises when it comes to sports, so fans never know what could go wrong or right in the season—which has the viewers glued to their seats shivering in suspense.

With this, Malden looks to continue their season and seek out their first win in their second game of the season and its home opener against Chelsea High School on Tuesday, December 19th.
