Thoughts from the Editor

Emma Ceplinskas October 1, 2015 1 minute read

The season of fall signifies the change in the color of leaves but more importantly the start of the college application process. Students often turn to the Common Application to apply to schools which some criticize as “unimaginative” as mentioned in “The Big New Effort to Revamp College Admissions- Will it Work?” The Common Application is also known to have technical difficulties, but in January the new Coalition for Access Affordability, and Success has a “new free joint application website and online college planning portal” scheduled to launch. The site has the intentions of “help[ing] students collaborate with counselors and build a rich portfolio of work throughout high school.” Next summer the site will have the college application set up. To learn more about the potential new college application, go to http://www.npr.org/sections/ed/2015/09/30/444498625/the-big-new-effort-to-revamp-college-admissions-will-it-work . Come next fall students may be opting to use the new application site over the Common Application.

Emma Ceplinskas, now a senior at Malden High School, is starting this year as one of the Editors and Chief of Online for the Blue and Gold newspaper. She described journalism class as “unrestricted" based on the freedom that comes with a student run paper. Ceplinskas is also excited about this year due to being an editor gaining “more control over what goes on the website.” She finds herself interested in chemistry and writing, but is unsure of what she wants to study after high school because “you never know where you are going to end up based on the opportunities that come,” Ceplinskas stated.
